An in-house electronica DJ, a café for weary shoppers (converts to an appropriately posh restaurant 5:30-10pm), a salon, ladies' wear on the top floor, suits on the middle, urban chic on the ground...you won't believe this used to be a natural history museum. Also known as: Boston Best Meat This recent addition to Louis of Boston, the über-upscale clothing store, is a chic, innovative, and exciting treat for the end (or middle) of a hard day of shopping. The Asian-influenced Meditteranean menu is both creative and slightly bewildering, but the knoweldgeable and friendly waitstaff is more than willing to help dazzled customers navigate the sea of high-priced options. Try the potato spring rolls ($14) or tuna tartar ($16) for a fun blend of flavors to start and then move on to the filling main courses, ranging from lobster served with cookies ($35) to hay fired chicken ($27). Finish up with the amazing chocolate tempura for dessert ($10), but save room for a cotton-candy surprise when the check comes. After over 50 years in Europe, H&M has joined meatballs and bikini teams as the only worthwhile Swedish exports to America. The downtown store brings Bostonians the hottest euro-chic styles (and mind-numbingly long lines), with clothing for men, women and kids. H&M is high fashion at shockingly low prices; while you won't be able to expect the style or quality of any garment to last you more than a couple of seasons, at $15 for a dress and $2 for three pairs of earrings, you can't really go wrong. H&M also consistently updates its newest fashions. Always busy, it's fun to poke in. If this Downtown Crossing location does not work for you, you can also visit H&M at Cambridgeside Galleria or the couture H&M on Newbury Street. It should not be missed for the stylish hungry who don't have a huge bankroll to spend on clothes. The Newbury location is opened M-SA from 10:00 AM - 9:30 PM, Sunday 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM. It is to be noted that if you're looking for men's clothing, only the Newbury Street and the Downtown Crossing stores carry men's stuff. Don't ask me why? That's just the way it is. It was annoying when I visited the other stores only to find out that they only carry women's clothing.

Banana Republic relies on sleek fabrics, almost-Euro cuts, and a skinny and chic young clientele to maintain its reputation as the “upscale Gap.” Beautiful leathers, cashmeres, and linens comprise the priciest items, while jeans ($50-100), khakis ($40-90), and natural-colored sweaters ($20+) make up the greater part of their merchandise. Their suits ($190+) and businesswear (and wide variety of business casual items) make it a great place to find interview clothes. The best part about BR? Because they constantly rotate in new clothing, the sales racks are always piled high with staples at more affordable prices. Visit their website for online reservations. This is a small restaurant on Newbury Street offering up cocktails and menu items that are contemporary American. Prices range from $6-$15 for appetizers and $15-$30 for entrees. In the summer, there is a patio that holds up to 30 people. For $29, there is a prix fixe menu (Sunday through Wednesday). The regular menu highlights include a prosciutto/fig/arugula pizza and porchini ravioli. There is a bar crowd that is mostly neighborhood regulars.

Attire is more business casual. Known for their interesting cocktails and celebrity sightings. The three-course, $33 prix fixe menu is offered at all times and presents a good bargain for scene-chasing diners. The menu can best be characterized by and is known for having a variety of vegetarian options as well as it's ability to meet your dietary needs. Their cocktail list is extensive to cater to the after work crowd that can quickly turn into a party scene at night. There are 2 floors to the place. Downstairs has a small and sexy lounge.

A vast majority of the menu is offered on flavor infused wooden skewers, the other half a mix of international fusion cuisine. Great cocktails and patio. The new dining and entertainment venture from the owners of neighboring 33 Restaurant & Lounge. Stix is right in the crossroads of the Back Bay and the South End, and offers a sleek design, wine bar (that allows you to bring your own collection in at a small cost) takeout, patio seating and live entertainment a few nights a week. The menu is diverse and international with 50% of the plates on flavor infused skewers, and 50% in entree or small plate form.
