Everything in this joint is between $2 and $5, and it's all good. Some of it may be unfamiliar, but everything is fresh and tasty. Ever since they were discovered by the New York foodwriter scene, Vietnamese sandwiches have become the new “it” food. They're made of variously cooked meats with fresh vegetables, onions, coriander, and chilies on a warmed French loaf. Saigon Sandwich does some of the best available in Boston, and for a ridiculously low price. Saigon Sandwich also sells box lunches of spring rolls and rice sets for $3-5. Perfect if you're hopping on the Chinatown to NY. As you savour your #2, sneer at your fellow passengers flocking into Roy Rogers, for you surf the next wave of tastebud titillation and they languish in the shallows.

The best pho in Boston. It's not a big place and you will definitely have to wait but the food is worth it. You can get many different Vietnamese specialties here, but the recommendation has to be the pho - chicken, beef, even tofu is great. The decor is nothing to write home about but you won't notice once the put that big, steaming bowl of goodness in front of you.

Lu's is one of the better Vietnamese sandwich shops in Chinatown. It's a tiny little place, and the food is really cheap - you can get a bahn mi here for as little as $2.50. The pork meatball bahn mi is a local favorite.

I worked in the Chinatown area for 20+ years and in the last few, this was my favorite eatery. Vietnamese soups, wonderful on a cold day - and also a variety of other meals on the menu. Their shrimp spring rolls are a must-have, and I love the barbecue chicken dish with noodles. Also on the menu- (great in summer!)... fruit shakes (smoothies), fresh spring rolls, rice plates. Friendly service and great prices.

Located on the outskirts of Chinatown and within steps away from the Boston Common, this Chinese restaurant offers excellent vegetarian dishes including the Family Style Bean Curd (deep fried curd sauteed with veggies) and the Vegetarian Delight (Chinese veggies cooked in a light sauce). While Beijing on the Common is more Americanized compared to the eateries in nearby Chinatown, this restaurant serves up healthy, larger-than-usual portions at reasonable prices.
