This stately hotel was once the infamous Charles Street Jail that was a Boston institution for the criminally challenged from 1851-1990. The BHP is an institution. Named "Boston's best dive bar" several years in a row, this is a must go to hole in the wall. During the day, the bar boasts an eclectic group of city folk that love to drink and hang out in a dark and musty bar. But at night, you will find the BHP crowded with recent college grads to mid-late 20 somethings looking for cheap drinks (they are here to be found) and a good time. Most crowded on the weekends post 10:30, the BHP, although dirty and crowded, gets into you and leave you coming back for more! Beers: $2-4 and mixed drinks $3-$5. CASH ONLY! Yes, they use plastic pints and cups, the floor can be sticky, and the bathrooms are highly questionable (Guys, there isn't a stall so hold your number two if you gotta go) but its one of the best dive bars in Boston and if you're looking for the snobby "Seen and Be Seen" place, the BHP isn't it. Its a true Boston bar with one goal in mind: gettin' drunk and having a story to tell later on.

Harvard Gardens is many things. For one, it is a local Beacon Hill haunt. During the day, a place where nearby MGH folk enjoy lunch. On the weekends, there is a brunch crowd. Dinner is served here featuring upscale comfort food and American favorites such a delectable pastas and delicate salads. However, the real Harvard Gardens is mostly known for it's great bar scene appreciated mostly by Beacon Hillers. Crammed into the long and narrow bar you will find a plethora of preppily clad 20 and 30 somethings looking for fun and someone fun. The bar is crowded, but the drinks are not that expensive. There is something here for everyone, just remember that unless you get there really early thursday - saturday- it is standing room only! Homemade desserts like a Guinness float or a sinful "chocolate lovers" platter for two are worth a visit alone. With its location across t he street from MGH, the bar enjoys one of the highest ratios of doctors and nurses of any establishment in the city.

Cultivating neighborhood pub atmosphere, proprietor John Kiley has crafted a bar where Frasier would feel at home and Niles would nervously wipe his brow. The crowd, mostly Beacon Hill locals loyal to their “town pub”, enjoy good company and chummy conversation (read: if you're looking for that crazy bar scene, head elsewhere). Tasty and inexpensive pub grub, highlighted by knockwurst steamed in beer ($5), French dip sandwiches ($6), and The Kiley (turkey, roast beef, and pastrami dripping with Russian dressing, $6.50), is served until 11pm. Though its name comes from its street address, The Sevens is also well known for its 7 beers on tap (mug $3.25-3.50, pint $4-4.25, pitcher $10-10.50). Entrees $5-6.50.
