Named after famous boozer-poet Charles Bukowski, this laid-back bar literally has 99 bottles of beers on the wall ($3-8). Catering to non-conformists of all ages, the Bukowski Tavern invites students, musicians, and locals to sample all 99 types of beer and join the prestigious mug club—all members receive their own personal mug inscribed with the name of their favorite dead author. With imports from around the globe and a menu with fabulous descriptions of every brew's flavor and history, this is the perfect complement to your incomplete Harvard education. Enjoy off-the-wall beers with the relaxed, neighborhood crowd. Bukowski's also offers a good lunch and dinner menu (entrees $3.75-7.25) and a great weekday burger special ($1.69). Just make sure to bring cash, as they do not accept Credit Cards.

With three locations throughout Boston and Cambridge, and a presence at Mohegan Sun, Jasper White is definitely doing something right. In this central Back Bay location, you are on top of King's bowling alley and right behind the Hynes Convention Center. This Summer Shack boasts the largest raw bar in the city. Parking is $7.00 at a lot adjacent to the restaurant. However, a little known fact is that on the weekends the commercial spots on Dalton Street are up for the taking...

Though housed in a converted Boston police department, the sleek dark wood and polished surfaces of Dillon's bear little relation to its grittier past. An older crowd that can afford the steeper prices sips premium liquors or samples generic American fare like cobb salad or prime rib (entrees $14-22). There is a private outside area with seating where smoking is allowed. The quieter atmosphere and its location make Dillon's a possible choice for post- or mid- Newbury spree refueling.

At first sight, the stuffed buffalo and and wood-panelling adorning the Cactus Club might have you think you've found a Final Club for the southwestern cowboy crowd. Don't be fooled, though—boasting awards for the best margaritas and best fajitas in Boston as well as the best pick-up spot, The Cactus Club lets everyone in, from the afterwork to the college crowd, making for a lively bunch even on weekdays and especially during Sox games, when all appetizers and margaritas are half-priced. Try the Tequila Sunrise chicken ($12) in a limey, tangy sauce with a kick courtesy of its namesake booze, or stick to old favorites like enchiladas, burritos, and fajitas. The Cactus Club is primarily known as a watering hole—try the Horny Margarita ($7) or share a Big Bowl ($15) with a friend. Reservations accepted Su-Th; on F-Sa only accepted before 4pm.

Bring your drinking shoes--- Cactus Club makes some of the best/strongest/largest margaritas this side of the east coast. Try the various flavors and tequillas made by the lovely/flirty bar staff. Small tables in the bar area make this after-work place great for mingling & meeting others with ease. Bottom Line: the margaritas will make you forget about Boston's cold winters and make you think you've gone tropical. It's like a pringle, you can't have just one!
They also have a HUGE buffalo over their bar that believe it or not, smoke comes out of his nose!!! You should go if you haven't been here yet.

A lineup of Buddha statues greets you as you enter this "palatial sanctuary" of Thai cuisine, perfect for an intimate dinner. In addition to the usual chairs, a raised platform with low tables lets patrons take off their shoes and lounge back on pillows for a more “traditional” experience. The friendly staff will gladly answer questions and make recommendations, such as crispy duck with plum sauce ($12.50) and pla saam rod, crispy whole bass with basil and spicy sauce. Or feel free to customize your own meal from your choice of meat, seafood, or tofu with house sauces from ginger to bamboo to pineapple ($9-12). Don't leave without trying the mango and sticky rice ($6.95) for dessert. Noodles and fried rice $8-10, entrees $9-17.

A hidden gem amidst bustling Newbury Street comes a bookstore that calls itself “Boston's alternative". This diner-style restaurant draws rave reviews from students and families alike. You can cozy up in any corner and peruse the variety of books, magazines, and interesting knickknacks, or munch on Trident's munchies like classic salads ($8-14), sandwiches ($9-11), coffee, smoothies ($4). They have a great selection of loose teas ($2.50-$3.50) and serve breakfast all day (omelettes $7+). The staff will take a book off the rack for you and let you take it into the cafe. This quiet spot to sit back, chill out, and enjoy, is the perfect break from the craziness of Newbury. They also have a public restroom: on the right, halfway down the store.

It may be drab, but Steve's cooks some of the heartiest and most authentic Greek fare in Boston. Unusual items like kleftiko, lamb wrapped in grape leaves and baked in metaxa brandy ($13), add some flair to traditional main courses ($7-13) and appetizers ($5-10) such as tsatziki (a cucumber, yogurt, and garlic dip) and kebabs. But, as the happy crowds can testify, even the standards—gyros ($5.25), pastichio ($9.25), and souvlaki ($5.25)—are well-seasoned and delicious at Steve's. Vegetarians have plenty of options, including horiatiki salad with feta ($7) and veggie moussaka ($9). Homemade desserts feature an incredible baklava ($6) and galaetobourico ($2.75), custard-filled dough draped in cinammon and honey. Look for daily specials.

The mahogany bar serves the best martinis in town from an experienced lot of friendly bartenders and the brick-oven chums out eclectic pizzas and focaccia throughout the day.It is easy to relax at Sonsie and enjoy the classic music that reflects the ambience of the restaurant as day progresses into night.

New at Sonsie, located on the lower level, the Wine Room is the perfect location to enjoy your favorite bottle of wine, cocktail, and sample the menu from Chef Bill Poirier. Open Monday thru Saturday from 6pm to 1 am. 2006 Best of Boston Award Winner.
Part Parisian cafe, part elegant dining experience, Sonsie is an upscale hipster joint located, appropriately enough, on Newbury St. Sonsie sets off your pretension alarms from the moment you enter its dim, orange waiting area, complete with cushy sofas. The deep, fancy dining room allows parties to converse comfortably at mealtimes, while those just taking a shopping break for drinks or “lighter fare” crowd around oval tables in front of huge windows opening onto the street in warmer weather. The menu offers a few varieties of brick oven pizzas ($9-21), pasta ($15), and entrees including seared tuna ($25) and the American standard, a 16-oz. steak ($32). Save room for desserts like chocolate bread pudding ($8), and then enjoy unusual cocktails such as iced chai ($10.50) at the bar. Valet parking after 6pm. Entrees $17-32. Reservations recommended. Wireless internet.
