An after-work crowd de-stresses over beers and quesadillas in this financial district hangout. Come weekend nights, however, Boston's only Irish-Mexican cantina morphs into a crowded but unpretentious spot for college students and professionals alike to dance and drink to their hearts' content. Even the bathroom sign, “Women/Damas/Lassies” adds a trilingual touch. With 2 floors, 3 bars, a pool table, and a DJ F-Sa churning out Top 40 tunes, what more could you ask for? Traditional bar food with a Mexican twist ($5-9) served 11am-9pm. Cover Th-Sa $5 after 9pm.

Originally on Province Street in Downtown Crossing with origins dating back to the 1940s, The Littlest Bar has reopened in a new--and slightly larger--location on Broad Street in the Financial District. Proprietor Paddy Grace closed the infamous original locale two years ago after issues with a high-rise condo development in Downtown Crossing. The new spot, covered with old-school memorabilia including photos and a letter from former Boston mayor Ray Flynn, also shares a kitchen with The Times Irish Pub & Restaurant. Small-size order of fish and chips, anyone?

Sissy K's is one of the few places in Boston where you will find a $1 Bud draft all day, 2 floors with live music and DJ, and never a cover. Listen to the warbling local singers on stage during weeknight karaoke, however, and you'll realize why. Still, for rock-bottom prices and an always entertaining cross-section of college Greek life, Sissy K's is the place to be. 2-for-1 apps after 10pm. Next door to the classier, but pricier, Black Rose. This section contains information from Harvard Student Agencies' Unofficial Guide to Life at Harvard.
Expect Sissy's to be crowded enough to give you a good chance of making conversation with a stranger. Cheap drinks make this a favorite of large groups and bachelorette parties.
Tip: They have $1 beers during happy hour! However ~ Drafts of Bud cost $1, all day and every day.

Mr. Dooley's is a great Irish pub with lots of old-school color. In fact, portraits of notable Irishmen (including Mr. Dooley) peer down from dark green walls, onto patrons crammed into tiny tables and high-backed wooden booths. And the typical pub fare (burgers, shepherd's pie, fish and chips) and thick pints of Guinness are served up with a warm smile from a staff of Irish expatriates. Live music most nights. A regular winner of various "Best of Boston" polls for "Best Irish Bar".

Touted as “The Place—Where People Meet,” this comfortable sports bar in the Faneuil Hall area of downtown Boston is just that, always popular with both the after-work and after-college crowd. The big-screen TV and long bar offer plenty of distractions for bar goers trying to tune out the boring conversation of the group sitting next to them, or waiting for the craziness to start after 10pm. Come here Su nights for local music, early W for sports broadcasts, Th for Ladies' Night, and every night for a feeling that your alcoholism has taken you a bit too far. F-Sa cover $5.

The Rack is a notoriously lively downtown night spot. Despite its athletic clientele and occasionally star-studded guest lists, The Rack's dress code is all business: no shorts, sneakers, t-shirts, sportswear, hats, work boots, or sandals, no jeans on Sa, and collared shirts for gents are preferred. Despite the dress code, The Rack is still plenty of fun, and there's a lot to keep you stimulated: pool tables ($7/hr 11am-5pm, $14/hr 5pm-2am), food, a bar, a dance area, and live entertainment nightly (check the website). No cover.
