Located on the outskirts of Chinatown and within steps away from the Boston Common, this Chinese restaurant offers excellent vegetarian dishes including the Family Style Bean Curd (deep fried curd sauteed with veggies) and the Vegetarian Delight (Chinese veggies cooked in a light sauce). While Beijing on the Common is more Americanized compared to the eateries in nearby Chinatown, this restaurant serves up healthy, larger-than-usual portions at reasonable prices.

This pan-Asian gem found on threshold of the Theatre District’s fine dining and Chinatown’s authenticity offers fresh Thai cuisine and above-average sushi. While Montien is a bit pricey, they offer excellent vegetarian options. And their sushi is prepared at a bar with the chef working his magic right in front your eyes. Great for both dining in and take-out.

Dim sum is exciting for everyone, but speaking Chinese (or trying to) will help you fill your tummy with delicious trifles faster. Seriously, folks, drag your Chinese blockmate downtown to help you navigate your way through the mouthwatering offerings at China Pearl. Show up early (before 11:30am) on weekends to avoid a long wait in the glitzy mirror-lined staircase. Standard dim sum dishes, such as BBQ pork buns (cha siu bao), shrimp dumplings (har gau), and chicken feet run $2-7 a dish, but don't think about the cost—it's the rare visit that ends with a bill that's more than $10 per person. Save room for yummy, intriguingly textured desserts like the spoonable melon jellos and black bean buns. Dinner ($9-15) on weeknights is a whole other world; China Pearl feels like a deserted ballroom the night after the party.

Also known as "New Shanghai" (that's how they answer the phone) Shanghai Cafe offers gourmet Chinese cuisine from different regions of China prepared with the "finest ingredients" (their laguage). Located close enough to Chinatown to boast authenticity and centrally accessible to please the Theatre District crowd, this top-notch Chinese establishment also boasts karaoke. Deliveries outside their small circle (such as the South End) have a small delivery charge ($4?)and often take 45+ mins. They are consistent in quality.

The food here is very good and especially good after a night out. The food quality is head and shoulders above what you would find at Chau Chow city late night. Because of the awkward location, it is missed by most people that don't know about this place so the atmosphere late nights is more subdued where it is perfect to wind down and chat with your friends about the night. The outside looks very uninviting. There is a neon sign in a small window to the left, and to the right is a small hanging lit sign, which doesn't compete to well against it's neighbors. Well, pretty much everything on Tyler looks like hell anyways. You enter and are confused because you see only 4 rather large tables in a small room, but you turn the corner and there are more tables in a space twice as big. The floor is a bit uneven and the huge partition is a mystery, but it's probably a staircase. Don't be scared to come in, it's really a great place!

This hidden gem boasts unusual seafood dishes served with a Cantonese and Mandarin flair. New Jumbo Seafood showcases their fresh menu where they literally have their catches of the day on display in huge aquariums. Favorites include their tasty rice noodles, chicken with cashews and three to four kinds of fresh fish. New Jumbo Seafood's claim to fame for their exotic fusion of Eastern flavors coupled with a wide variety of herbal delicacies. Late-night sushi lovers flock to this hidden gem in Chinatown. The kimono-clad waitresses deliver some of the most inspired and fresh Japanese cuisine in Boston with creative dishes like spider maki, a fried soft-shelled crab juxtaposed with avocado, cucumber and flying roe fish wrapped in seaweed. For dessert, try Ginza Japanese Restaurant’s green-tea ice cream chockfull of antioxidants and a creamy flavor.

“Sizzling fajitas and frosty margaritas” are the order of the day at this funky, laid-back hangout. It's not the most authentic taco joint, but portions are large and prices are reasonable (fajitas $7-12, large order of tequila wings $10, and chili $3-4). The bar stocks 18 different kinds of tequila—need we say more? Margaritas $4+, pitchers $10+. Best of all, should the José Cuervo bring out your artistic impulses, feel free to doodle on the tables and walls (crayons provided). Entrees $7-13. New Shanghai Restaurant’s entrees make the most of fresh seafood and spicy Szechuan-style meats. Their specialties include five-spice beef, Singapore noodle and a high-quality dim sum selection.
