10 Chandler Street is a hub of human and animal activities! This is where the non-profit animal welfare organization, the Animal Rescue League of Boston is headquartered. You will find an animal shelter with dogs, cats, rabbits, small mammals, birds and the occasional reptile seeking homes. There is a behavior center to help with an unruly pet, obedience classes, an out-patient veterinary clinic, Boston Veterinary Care. Additionally, the Animal Rescue League of Boston has a police department working to prosecute cases of animal cruelty and neglect, as well as a very active rescue department which saves animals (wild and domestic) from all types of peril. The Animal Rescue League of Boston was established in 1899 by the forward thinking Anna Harris Smith. She was concerned with overworked horses and established kindness clubs for children to help create a kinder society. The Animal Rescue League of Boston likes to promote Anna's phrase: "Kindness Uplifts the World".

Thanksgiving and Christmas yield volunteer opportunities throughout the Commonwealth. Contact your local Salvation Army to participate in preparing and delivering food baskets, serving Thanksgiving dinner, hosting a toy/clothing drive, adopting a family for the holidays, or working at a Christmas Castle event where toys, coats and food vouchers are given to families in need.
If you would like more information on any of the below programs, please contact Carolyn Brunis, Volunteer Coordinator, at (617) 542-5420 x182 or send her an e-mail at Carolyn.Brunis@use.SalvationArmy.org.

Established in 1989, the Boston Living Center (BLC) is New England’s largest HIV/AIDS community and resource center providing daily, nutritious meals, education workshops, computer and employment training, art studio with classes, and holistic services to over two thousand members annually. By accessing the Center, members experience improved quality of life, increased sense of hope from supportive peers, and a strengthened ability to advocate for their challenging health care needs. Support this charity by applying to the BLC Boston Marathon Team. Funds raised by the Marathon will support research-based education workshops at the BLC, which are proven to increase immune functioning for people living with HIV/AIDS.
