Open 24 hours? Yes, it exists.
Compared to my former urban enclave in NYC, Boston is far from the city that never sleeps.
In fact, most establshments close before midnight.
So, when I worked the early, early shift at WHDH-TV, Channel 7 near the Haymarket T Station, I had to quickly find the few eateries, convenience stores and coffee shops that were open before I clocked in at 3 a.m.
You'd be surprised, with a little bit of insider knowledge, what you can find open in the wee hours of the night.
Here are a few of my faves:
- South Street Diner near South Station serves up greasy diner fare--everything from burgers to home fries to a chicken bomb--with a "Kiss My Grits!" attitude.
- Bova's Bakery keeps the sweet treats cranking all day and night as well as yummy sandwiches and strombolis coming for the after bar crowd and North End denizens all night.
- Gourmet Express, a former White Hen Pantry on Mass. Ave. near Cambridge's Porter Square, is not your average convenience store.
- Across the street from Gourmet Express is CVS - Pharmacy. This late-night Porter Square drug store is one of the few pharmacies open all night.
