The purpose of the program is to provide opportunities and services to the culturally diverse families in the Dorchester neighborhood. It is a comprehensive Head Start program in partnership with parents. It serves families for twenty-five hours weekly, assisting them in self-sufficiency and success in life. The program's philosophy is to promote self-help and self-sufficiency.

Located in the rear of the shopping plaza, this is one of the city-wide network of Head Start programs run by Action for Boston Community Development. From their website: The citywide ABCD Head Start program is Boston’s primary source for a comprehensive, holistic, family intervention program for low-income, pre-school children and their families. All Head Start and Early Head Start children receive education, health, special education, dental, mental health, social, and nutritional services. Parents also have access to special programs, such as literacy and substance abuse prevention and treatment, and education and training opportunities that enable families to move into the economic mainstream.

ABCD has developed a broad spectrum of programs to serve individuals and families at every stage of their lives. Within several major categories, new programs are constantly developed to meet emerging needs and utilize available resources. The goal of all programs is to meet needs, empower individuals and families, and strengthen communities.
