Built in 1723 and located in the North End, this is Boston's oldest standing Church building and officially known as "Christ Church in the City of Boston". Several gardens grace this location: the 18th Century Garden, the St. Francis of Assisi Garden, the Washington Memorial garden, and the Third Lantern Garden. These are great to visit in the summer, with walkways, shade, and 18th century annuals and perennials. The interior high box pews and brass chandeliers, as well as the Church's first clock are all original. The oldest bells in Boston also reside here, which have been restored a couple of times and ring regularly, usually on Saturday mornings. One of the historic landmarks along the Boston Freedom Trail.

One of the most recognizable icons of East Boston is the 35-foot-high statue of the Madonna. The Madonna Shrine, atop Orient Heights, is the national headquarters for the Don Orione order. Constructed in 1954, the statue is a full-size replica of one at the Don Orione Center in the Montemario district of Rome, Italy. It was constructed in 1954 by Jewish-Italian sculptor Arrigo Minerbi, who wanted to show his gratitude to the Catholic Church for having shielded him and his family from the Nazis during World War II. Across the street from the Shrine is the Don Orione Home, a nursing home which, like the Shrine, was founded by the Don Orione priests.

The Romanesque Mother Church of the Christian Science religion is part of the sect's Boston headquarters. Mary Baker Eddy, a New Hampshire native who moved to Boston in 1881, founded the church in 1879. Members spurn modern medicine in favor of prayer-based healing. The church was built in 1894, and the reflecting pool along the building is a relaxing spot for people of all faiths.
