The major selling point of Kaze is its low-key ambience and beautifully tasteful décor. This Chinatown restaurant offers fresh shabu-shabu with a stellar variety of meat and fish. Great place for a group gathering and the perfect spot for a first date. Also, it's opened late (until 3am on the weekends).

Don't let the shabby exterior fool you: This hole in the wall is Chinatown's best kept and most delicious secret. This reasonably priced Chinese food restaurant is known for its specialties including their yummy scallion pancakes and their top-tier Peking Duck (however, you must order it 24 hours in advance). King Fung Garden has been a Chinatown staple for more than 50 years with an extremely friendly and courteous staff. If you have trouble deciding what to order, owners Irwin and Doris Mei will gladly help you out. Also, in an area with less-than-stellar restrooms, King Fung has some of the cleanest and well-kept washrooms in Chinatown.

The best Chinese fondue restaurant in Chinatown, hands down. Heaping plates of veggies, seafood, or meats are brought to the table for you to indulge in. Great prices and always busy. Beware, you might have to wait for a table! The restaurant is obviously not fully vegan/vegetarian, but makes a tasty meal if you are either of those. The fruit shakes are also a treat.

East Ocean City's attentive waitstaff and upscale décor makes it one of the snazziest spots in Chinatown. The beautiful traditional landscapes gracing the walls might be one reason for the relatively high prices, but the food is just as beautiful and traditional, and in-the-know patrons are willing to shell out a little extra for it. The restaurant specializes in seafood, featuring unusual dishes like yu xiang scallops ($16.50) and fried crisp softshell crabs with spicy salt ($20), but its vegetarian selection is also strong. The stir-fried Japanese egg tofu with mixed vegetables ($12) appeals even to those who usually shy away from bean curd, and the Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce ($7.50) is sublime, cooked to perfect tenderness. Populated by highly skilled chefs skilled in Shanghai-style cuisine, this new Chinatown hotspot opened in the Spring 2006. New Shanghai Restaurant’s entrees make the most of fresh seafood and spicy Szechuan-style meats. Their specialties include five-spice beef, Singapore noodle and a high-quality dim sum selection. Delivery starts 6:30 pm and reaches into the south end.

I worked in the Chinatown area for 20+ years and in the last few, this was my favorite eatery. Vietnamese soups, wonderful on a cold day - and also a variety of other meals on the menu. Their shrimp spring rolls are a must-have, and I love the barbecue chicken dish with noodles. Also on the menu- (great in summer!)... fruit shakes (smoothies), fresh spring rolls,rice plates. Friendly service and great prices.

I think the best way to enjoy Taiwan Cafe is to go with a group of friends and order family style. The atmosphere is lively and the place is perpetually packed. Beware: The array of items on the menu is really geared for those with an adventurous palate and can truly appreciate authentic Chinese cooking. This is not your beef-and-broccoli kind of Chinese restaurant. This is the chilled-jellyfish and spicy-pork-ears kind of place. The place can get very busy during weekday lunch and weekend brunch hours, so go early or at other times. Tip: Huge lunch specials cost $6 each, or $16.95 for three.
