At the Cardiovascular Clinical Physiology Laboratory (located within BIDMC , a team of physicians, physiologists and technologists collaborate to provide the most advanced physiological testing for those suffering or at risk of cardiovascular diseases. Patients receive one-on-one education from a nurse practitioner regarding heart failure, nutrition, exercise and lifestyle adjustments at initial and follow-up visits. Intensive management of symptoms and titration of medications are provided by phone between visits as needed. The team works closely with referring physicians, specialists and home health care agencies to optimize chronic incidence of hospitalization. Patients also have access to active congestive heart failure (CHF) clinical standard therapy. In addition, the clinic offers formal on-site assessment for cardiac transplantation through a collaborative program with New England Medical Center. This is a branch of the cardiovascular department, that specializes in monitoring patients with cardiovascular issues. A Holter Monitor is a portable monitor that a patient can bring home, and it will record a patients heart for two weeks. This recording allows the medical professionals to study arrythmias more carefully on an individual basis. This allows for a more accurate prediction of serious heart problems on a patient to patient basis.
