The Blood Donor Center is an independantly managed blood collection facility that serves pediatric patients only. This department was started in the late 1950's, at the start of the first open heart surgeries. Today, the Blood Donor Center supplies all blood-needing patients within the Children's Hospital Complex. Children's Hospital warmly welcomes individuals interested in donating blood. Monday through Thursday: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday: Platelet appointments available. The Center for Families at Children's Hospital Boston is quite unique in it's vision. The center exists to provide families with resources to understand their child's illness. This center also give parents the resources to be informed decision makers in their child's care, no matter how serious. The following services are offered through the Center for Families: -Resources on pediatric illnesses and conditions,-informative resources for families to understand what Children's Hospital Boston can offer, -public computers for families to use (with access to the internet), -a library which houses books on childhood development, sibling related issues, and medical conditions, -a lactation support program, -workshops as well as seminars, -various types of special programs.

The Department of Child Life Services at Children's Hospital Boston exists to provide comfort and anxiety-reducing activities to children and families with children in the hospital. Pre-admitting hospital visits are offered through this department to help children feel more comfortable about their upcoming hospital stay. Child Life Specialists are trained with skills that enable them to communicate in words that children can understand, and are essentially a vital aspect of Children's Hospital.
