This is a great place to go if you want to hang out but not dance, featuring relaxed music mixes by Party Ben. The atmosphere is comfortable, you can take your friends or a date. The decor had textured white columns, dark wood furniture with black trim for the bar and tables, rich red seating in the lounge area. Wednesday nights they have a Frank Sinatra impersonator, which you think might be a bad thing, but this guy is excellent and is worth the trip alone. You really have to stop by sometime just to hear him, take my word for it. DJs keep the action moving on the dance floor on the weekends.
Red Sky is below the Millenium Hotel in Faneuil Hall. (Why is it at a different address then?)

Improv is at its craziest—and best—at this underground comedy haven. Tucked into the beginning of Hanover Street in the North End,mainstage shows combine improv and sketches into a slap-happy laugh orgy (W-Th 8pm, $15; F-Sa 8 and 10pm, $20). After the mainstage, late shows ($5-10) offer routines and sketches from guest artists as well as the cast. The all-improv Midnight Show (Sa, $10) is even zanier. Students can enjoy all NXT shows, featuring the “developmental” cast, for free ($5 for non-students). The onsite bar does a brisk business. Improv Asylum also offers classes ($250 for 8 3hr classes), corporate training, and private performances. Call a couple days ahead to ensure admission, a few weeks ahead for large parties. It’s often said that, in order to move forward you have to look to the past. This can definitely be said about the inspiration for Durty Nelly's, based on a real-life woman, Nelly O’Sullivan, who was a stall holder in the Coal Quay Market in Cork City, Ireland. Overflowing with Irish charm and hospitality, this is just the place to take a break from a hectic day or spend the night with good friends passing away the hours in great conversation. On the second floor a surprise awaits in the form of a luxurious 18th Century dining room with some of the best views of the Rose Kennedy Greenway. The dinner Menu will not just include specials but will, in fact, change every evening.

Boston is known for its stellar Irish pubs and Hennessy’s of Boston doesn’t disappoint. The décor is chock full of antique furniture and stained-glass windows which gives its patrons a sneak peek of what life was like in 1900s. This popular Faneuil Hall bar combines Boston’s old-school Colonial ambience with an upbeat Irish cheer. Spread out over two floors the bar features a selection of rare Irish whiskeys (Bushmills, Redbreast and Midleton) and an excellent selection of pub grub staples ranging from clam chowder to deli sandwiches.

What used to be a former 1920's speakeasy and later an underground cigar bar is now one of the most popular hangouts for post-gustatory relaxation. After you've stuffed yourself on pasta and cannoli, puff on a good stogie. There are a couple dozen excellent varieties to choose from, which can be paired with fine cognac or scotch. Bonus: an exotic hookah for those who want to partake of their smoke the really old-fashioned way. One of the hidden gems of the North End.

Just across the way from Quincy Market, the Purple Shamrock attracts an older crowd of regulars relaxing after work, while a younger crowd drops by on weekends before a heavy night out. A wide selection of draft beers (about a dozen) and specialty drinks (chocolate cake martini $8) are available after 9:30pm. During the day, the menu ranges from fried calamari to buffalo wings (both $7), but if decisions aren't your strong point, you can always opt for the Shamrock Sampler ($12), a platter of menu favorites. Check the website for info on live music and events.

The live music offshoot of Boston's premier Irish pub, Hennessy's, offers a stellar array of cover bands and original music (kicking off 8pm every Thursday). The ambience of the space harkens to a traditional Irish village. However, what really makes this venue popular with live bands is its cutting edge sound and lighting systems. Hennessy's Hooley House is live music at its best.
