The Wine Emporium is a liquor store in the South End neighborhood of Boston. It features an extensive wine collection, as well as liquor and beer selections. This is one of two locations, the other being 474 Columbus Ave. The Wine Emporium has been here in Boston for more than 40 years and continues to serve to Bostonians. They offer over 1000 (yes, 1000) wines to choose from, as well as a large variery of beers(domestic, micro-brews, and imported varieties). Oishii Boston is located in the South End SOWA district and its contemporary decor and ambience reflects the artistic side of this up-and-coming Boston neighborhood. Awarded a stellar 28 (their highest rating) by Zagats for its food, this upscale sushi restaurant is the brainchild of Chef Ting San who is dedicated in crafting his creations with the freshest ingredients and literally treats each plate as a work of art. While this hidden gem is perfect for a romantic evening out, locals frequent Oishii for lunch to sample prix fixe Japanese cuisine at its best.

Jae's downtown continues to serve an awe-inspiring and overwhelming variety of pan-Asian foods, from curry dishes to grilled fish to pad Thai to Bim Bab (Jae's not-so-special specialty: rice with vegetables and beef in a Korean hot stone pot), and tops that all with one of Boston's most fresh, creative, and satisfying sushi bar. You could eat here every night of the week and have a different dining experience. Jae's menu includes amusing “designer tidbits” to help you create your own sushi combinations; the one titled “for party animals” fits the overall atmosphere of loud twenty-somethings steeped in hipstertude. El Triunfo is a popular take-out eatery in the easternmost part of South End. The store front is low-key, but the line out its front door at lunch time makes it easy to find this hidden gem. Not to worry though - service is quick and the line moves fast. Menus and decorations are done in a colorful "modern graffiti style". EXPANSION UNDERWAY: El Triunfo is taking over the adjacent storefront and will shortly have an expanded menu with additional grilled items and seafood, table service, and waitresses. Look for the "new" El Triunfo by Spring 2009. They expect to be able to offer beer and wine as well.

No frills about it. That is how Emilio's runs their business. Good food cheap and fast. Consistency is the name of the game for this busy South End takeout and delivery spot. If you are looking for decent pizza at a decent price, you found your spot. From large salads stocked with freshly grilled chicken to calzones and sandwiches, Emilio's will not allow you to be hungry for long. Although not the best pizza pie around, it wins the prize for not letting people down. Emilio's has a small outdoor eating area for good weather. Emilio's offers free delivery within its delivery area with a minimum $8 order. There is a $2 charge for delivery outside their area. Also while they take credit cards, there is a $1 credit card charge.

Mela comes to us from the One World Cuisine team who also run Bukhara, Diva, Kashmir, Mantra, and Cafe of India. The lunch buffet is very reasonable for the area: $10 weekdays, $13 weekends. Mela is likely the only Indian restaurant in the South End, but a very welcome addition. The service is friendly to children, but expect tight spaces, no kid cups or kid menus and to emphasize "very very mild spices please"/ They will however store your stroller for you.

Stellar Greek-style pizza and subs in the heart of this up-and-coming section of the South End. Greek pizza is generally less greasy and this pizza shop definitely delivers with their gourmet slices. Also, Alex Pizza offers an eclectic selection of atypical toppings like the Taco Pizza, Alfredo Chicken and the Alex Special. This cozy pizza joint also boasts homemade pasta including a tasty Lasagna Bolognese (with bechamel sauce) and Shrimp with broccoli. The decor, paying homage to ancient Greek motifs like Julius Caesar and Greek gods and goddesses, is welcoming and not overtly cheesy.
