The Citi Performing Arts Center includes Wang Theatre and The Shubert Theatre. Built in 1839, and at different times a church, synagogue, boarding house and Prohibition-period speakeasy, this building is currently split between staging Shear Madness, the longest running comedy in American history, and the infamous Blue Man Group Tubes, best described as performance art—drums, splashing paint, and rolls of toilet paper combine to produce an indescribable, gleefully childish sensory experience. Tickets $46+. Student rush tickets are often available, beginning at 10am on the day of show; ushers see the show for free (call at least 5 days in advance). Designed by Clarence Blackall in 1914, the Wilbur has staged a number of world premieres. Past performers include Marlon Brando, Anne Bancroft, and Henry Fonda. Admission $30-60.
