The Financial District is the economic heart of the city of Boston. During the day thousands upon thousands of dark suited Brooks Brothers clad warriors crowd the streets hungry for their next big sale, or anxious for when the markets will shift. Although in recent years there has been an influx of pricey high rises such as Broadluxe converted lofts, the financial district, compared to other downtown neighborhoods, can appear almost a ghost town when the quitting bell tolls at the end of the day. Regardless, this financial hub in the city is home to the major financial players that keep Boston's economy rolling, such as Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and Fidelity Investments. The financial district has a variety of public transportation servicing it including the orange, blue, green, and red lines on the T as well as all major commuter lines coming in and out of South Station. Several water taxis and commuter ferries service the various downtown wharfs as well.

There is no specific date to be found for the creation of the Financial District. The city of Boston itself was founded in 1630, and through the next three hundred years the city grew in size and moved closer to the parameters of what is now the Financial District and Waterfront. The true birth of the downtown area came with the buildup of the Financial Industry in Boston. Many of the buildings in the Financial District are from the late 1800's and onward due to the Great Fire of 1872 that devastated the Financial District. Today, Boston is the headquarter to several major corporations such as State Street Bank, and the regional headquarters of Bank of America.
