Government Center a landmark in which the West End, City Hall, the Financial District, the North End, and a major MBTA station collide was once envisioned to be the Union Square of Boston. It however was met with skepticism from Boston residents who saw it as a plaza void of life, greenery, and benches. Instead, squatters find themselves "hanging out" on any free surface they can which usually means a ledge that borders the vast, cobble stone plaza.

However, on occasion, a one-off event, or concert is thrown, transforming the outdoor space into a semi-interesting venue. The pros are its accessibility, and vast amount of flat public space. The cons are it is public and organizing a private event may be near impossible. Some of these interesting events include Santa workshops, and the occasional circus for kids.
