"Founded in 1977, The Fenway Alliance is a consortium of academic, cultural, and arts organizations collaborating to enhance the cultural, environmental, and economic vitality of the Fenway area.
An impressive roster of member organizations is committed to excellence in planning and development, and to creating a contemporary vision which will unlock the huge potential of this area. Of parallel importance is the advancement of the Arts - both visual and performing - within our region. Effective advocacy and implementation are the keys to a successful vision, and the Alliance boasts a strong track record of accomplishments. Speaking with one voice, the Alliance works closely with area business leaders, government officials and community groups to further its initiatives and fulfill its mission.
And what a mission it is! The establishment and promotion of The Fenway Cultural District is a cornerstone goal of the Alliance membership. Furthering the Arts through various medium, education and programmatic opportunities is central to the Alliance mission. This began in earnest on January 4, 1998 when Boston's Mayor Thomas Menino named Huntington Avenue the "Avenue of the Arts." This new moniker and its dedication ceremony were co-sponsored by the Fenway Alliance and Boston's Cultural Affairs Office. The Alliance is the City's designated organization to develop the Avenue, unearth the rich cultural and artistic resources contained therein and promote the Arts in cooperation with other City and regional groups.
To understand the importance of the Fenway Alliance is to understand the profiles of its member institutions and investment partners as found within the pages of this web site. The Fenway Cultural District is home to several world-renowned academic, cultural and religious institutions, which play a crucial role in the vitality and civic life in Boston. Independently, each of the member institutions faces pressing operational, financial and programmatic challenges. Rising to this challenge, the Alliance seeks to identify areas of common interest and target those programs or issues whereby shared effort will benefit the greater good." --from the Fenway Alliance website

Serving some healthy, alternative versions of what you would find in your normal sandwich shop Temptations is, nevertheless, reasonably priced enough to appeal to the largely student population in the area it occupies. The Greek Salad has real Greek olives which haven't seen the inside of a can and have the pits intact. Good place if you want something fast, but don't want mass-produced, fast food.
Boston House of Pizza, or more affectionately "BHOP" to area students, caters mainly to Northeastern and [www.colleges-fenway.org/ Colleges of the Fenway]. One of the area's many sub and pizza places, BHOP offers basic, simple, plain pizza for the college crowd. Spicy curly fries are among their best offerings, as are chicken fingers. More seating here than at Cappy's or Cappy's II, and conveniently located
Husky Card and Fenway Cash are both accepted here. Free Delivery. Online ordering.
Although it may not look like it from the outside, great Persian food awaits. Open the door and take in the smell of roasted meats and fresh pita, all at good prices. Close to Northeastern University, New England Conservatory, Wentworth Inst of Technology#, and many other schools, it's a college student favorite. Boston Shawarma was voted best of Boston for Middle Eastern food--the award is very much deserved. They are clear that they offer halal, or permissible under Islam, meats.
The menu includes shawarma, kabob, kibby, and soujok sandwiches for carnivores, veggie sandwiches with fillings like falafel and stuffed grape leaves, fresh salads, delicious spinach or meat pies, traditional pastries like balawa and mighli (spicy rice pudding), and some of the best hummus in the area. Dinner plates are also available, which come with pita, rice, salad, tahini sauce, and hummus on the side of kabobs, grape leaves, and other items. Tabbouli and baba ghanoush are also mouthwatering.
There are inside tables, and to-go is also popular. The men behind the counter are some of the most pleasant workers in the area, and always have a smile for customers.
They'll cater events for private events or at schools, and also deliver.
Cappy's II is located on Huntington Ave, right near Northeastern University and New England Conservatory of Music campuses, and shouldn't be confused with Cappy's on the corner of Westland and Hemenway. They offer standard fare like pizza, calzones, subs, wraps, chicken meals, spaghetti, salads, burgers, club sandwiches, and sides like fries, onion rings, and garlic bread. Ciabatta bread is a new offering on the meal side as well.
Cappy's II also offers breakfast, like omelets, breakfast wraps, french toast, and sides like home fries and english muffins. They plan on adding bagels to the menu soon!
There's a few tables to eat inside, but they also deliver from 11 am to midnight, with a $7.00 minimum.

Conor Larkin's Grill & Tap
Hours:
Mon-Sat 11:30am-1am
Sun 11:30am-12am
Conor's is one of Northeastern University's main campus bars. Until 9 pm, students over and under 21 can grab bar food for dinner together, then at 9, everyone starts getting carded.
Since Boston can't discount alcohol, most bars' version of happy hour revolves around discounted appetizers--Conor's does this on Mondays and Fridays.
Neighborhood hangout, plenty of tv screens, dark wood. Games like Bag Toss and Big Buck Hunter jumpstart competitions, while you can usually get a stack of shotglasses from behind the bar to play quarters at your own table.
Careful going up and down the stairs (Conor's is subterranean) after a few beers....
Nightly:
Monday Night Football Action
2 for 1 Apps during the game
Tuesday Night Trivia
Fun and Prizes
Wednesday Night Acoustics
musicians get unplugged
Thursday Night Guest Appearances
local celebs, and some not so famous, strut their stuff behind the bars
Friday Night Irish Happy Hour

Campus Tan, located conveniently near Northeastern, New England Conservatory, Berklee, and many [www.colleges-fenway.org Colleges of the Fenway] and offers a range of tanning and salon services at relatively reasonable prices.
They offer 5 "levels" of tanning, in more detail on their own website:
1) Elixir/ergoline 350
2) Soltronic Genies/Ergoline Affinity 500
3) Sun Capsule Super Sonic
4) Shark High Pressre
5) Spray Tan
For those not tan-experienced, check out their website, or ask one of the counter girls--they're all tan, and know plenty about Campus Tan's services
There's an option to shop online, purchasing tanning minutes, gift cards, or services from the monthly specials, which offer significant discounts on some of the regular services.
The nail/spa section is a little understaffed--only one woman does waxing and nails. The manicures and pedicures are much more expensive than many other salons, but the waxing is done well, and in the same price range as other providers in the city, at $14 for an eyebrow wax. The woman can usually squeeze in an eyebrow wax upon walk-in, but definitely make appointments for other salon services if you want a specific time.
The salon also sells nail polishes, tanning oils, lotions, and other items for clients. They use a fingerprint scan system to keep track of tanning customers, and put salon users in their database as well. The waiting area is clean and bright, and the private rooms for tanning and waxing are clean and comfortable

Another one of the many salons in this section of Huntington Avenue near Northeastern University, New England Conservatory and the Symphony and Mass Ave MBTA stops, Sal's Barbershop definitely caters more to the male population in the area--most girls don't end up at a "barbershop"--just as many guys won't go anywhere near the scented, fluffy salons of Newbury Street. With only day hours and weekday openings, it's not a good place if you work fulltime, but students and locals can definitely walk in or make an appointment for daylight haircuts during the week.
Hours: 9am-6pm Monday-Friday.

One of several salons in this section of Huntington near Northeastern University and New England Conservatory, Maximum Image Salon is a small nook to get a decent haircut. With only a few chairs and a slightly cramped space, it's not one of the luxurious Newbury salon/spas, but especially if you're a male looking for a relatively low-fuss experience, it may be a good choice for you. They sell Redken products, and take Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and Husky Cash.
This liquor store is the closest to Northeastern University, Wentworth Institute Of Technology, and New England Conservatory. As such, it's also one of the strictest stores around. Huntington Wine and Spirits won't accept out of state licenses without credible photo backup. If you only have an out of state identification card (not a license), be prepared to produce your passport instead.
The selection is pretty decent: beer--cans, bottles, a decent range of good beer, plenty of wine--one or two fridges chilling champagne, whites, and roses, and the majority of liquor behind the counter.
They also carry most mixers, and have container of limes and nips on the counter. There's sure to be a line on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights, as well as before any major sports games.
The store is a redemption center for bottles and cans, and also offers delivery services with a simple phone call. Additionally, they will buy back unused products--if you're throwing a huge party, you can buy more than enough with no fear of being stuck with all the extra. Corporate accounts are also available. The store has occasional wine, beer, and liquor tastings as well!
Now open Sundays from 12-8.
One especially lovely feature: get 20% off when buying 5 bottles of wine. It's like getting one bottle for free! Great if you want to stock up, or just because...
