At this bar “with an attitude,” you'll meet an unabashedly loud, obnoxious, and crude crowd (“All in good fun!”). Dick's sports a Southern feel, but don't come for the hospitality; the staff takes pleasure in harassing patrons, and it says something about the patrons that they keep coming back. Not the best place to go if you have taste, or if you like a decently-priced pint, though food is reasonable and served in quantity. 52 foreign and domestic beers, with 8 on draft ($6-7.50, refills $4.50). Live music provided by the house band most nights. No cover.

Where's the beef? The first Daily Grill to open in New England, Daily Grill Boston is located at
The Shops at Prudential Center. The venue has a bar area boasting its array of signature cocktails as well as a stellar selection of surf and turf including a New York Strip Steak that has been aged for 28 days ($28.75) and prime rib with au jus only served on Saturdays and Sundays ($27.95). Their sauce seems to be, well, their secret sauce ranging from savory red wine to creamy horseradish. Also, the dining area and bar is completely open--or alfresco--on sunny days and is the perfect spot to people watch as tourists trek up and down Huntington Ave.

By its own admission the “Shame O' the Back Bay,” Dick's prides itself on buckets o' grub, no bull, and a waitstaff that acts like, well, dicks. Check your dignity at the door and prepare to pay for the worst service you'll ever find as you devour a hearty selection of good, greasy food (think ribs, steak, chicken, and seafood) amidst the filth of thrown napkins and food fight residue. When your mouth isn't full, sing along with the great music selection or giggle as your fellow patrons get humiliated. Grab a drink from the long bar to dull the ego blows, or retreat to the campy bathroom, complete with naughty goodie dispensers. A great place for birthdays or other group events, Dick's will force members of the party to wear giant paper hats scribbled with insults (“I sleep with my mother”; “Hung like a gerbil”), among other exercises in humility. Su brunch (10am-3pm; $16) features various carnivorous delights as well as a plethora of desserts. Free validated parking after 5pm. Entrees $5-26.

Haru, recently opened in the ground floor of the Prudential Center on Huntington Ave., has finally come to Boston. For years this speciality sushi joint has been feeding california rolls and sashimi to hungry New Yorkers and Philadelphians. Bostonians now have the freedom to swing by their latest 6,100 square foot resturant to feast on Kabuki and salmon without buying an Amtrak ticket. Haku also decorates using local artists and a bamboo garden. However fresh their seafood might be, it comes with a price. Haku is chic and happening, but not the most filling or affordable in the market.

On cold winter days, this can be a great place to sit, read a book, and have some snacks. Sure, you can buy stuff too, but as a parent, the kids area and books are the main attraction for me.
Public Restroom
