Think coffeeshop spiked with alcohol. Overlooking the Mass Pike sits this quirky alternative pit stop, with a truly diverse clientele, an alt-rock soundtrack, and a skater-punk-themed decor. A busy lunch crowd lines up for hummus platters ($6.50), sandwiches and wraps ($6.20-7), and salads ($5.75-6.75). At night, the Other Side feels much more like a bar, as friends relax over pitchers of domestic and imported beer ($16-20) and chips and salsa. Despite the traffic, the patio makes a surprisingly good place to enjoy one of the special lattes ($4.25), smoothies ($4.50), or desserts; a cozy second-story loft adds another seating option. Half sandwich or salad with soup combo $6.75. The Other Side Cafe, or 'Osc' as it is known by some of the spindly hipsters who frequent it, is also known for its chili. The outdoor seating is a lot less posh than other Newbury cafes, but has a funkier people-watching--the crowd that frequents Other Side can be a lot more fun to watch and talk to! You can get regular (about $5) or large ($6) in a yummy variety of styles - choose which one and then go with beef, chicken or tofu. You can also do a salad or a smoothie. If you are having a really bad day, go in and order a Nutella burrito - once you bite into that heavenly chocolately goodness things will look a bit brighter. You can order online!!

Open until 2, Despinas is one of the few places that stays open for the bar goer's late night snacks. Franko, a loyal employee for years, will serve you up a slice of Greek style pizza ($1.50)at this late-night pizza joint. There is always a game on the tv (and they serve beers just in case you want a topper) Try the chicken wings, fried crisp. They also have your typical casual food (mozz sticks, sub sandwhiches, pasta, and awesomely huge calzones). Don't go for 5-Star cuisine, go for good ol' grub food.

Beware carb-haters! Get your noodle on at this asain hotspot. This joint is always crowded because of its authentic noodle-soup creations. It is nothing fancy on the inside, but the soup and the dishes like the Katsu are well made and enjoyable. This is a budget friendly establishment. The beef bowl is great for $7.

Cozy, comfortable coffee shop with outdoor tables. The granola-ie servers make noteworthy tea bags by hand (the berry blend is delish). Espresso Royale serves up tasty bagels, on a first come first serve basis- so hurry not to miss your favorite flavor. Vegetarian friendly- but no alcohol is served at this location. Also, the seating is fast to go- and often filled with a graphic design artist improving his/her lastest creation on their Apple, or a liberal policital activist whispering about the '08 election. It's always a treat to see who your caffienated neighbor is talking about..

Woody's offers terrific wood-fire oven pizzas, when you walk in you smell that slightly smoky smell from the oven. They also have salads and sandwiches for the non-pizza eating among us. A full bar occupies one side of the space. It's a great place to come to watch the game and eat and drink well while doing it. Because it's slightly out of the way, Woody's is great for lunch because you can always get a seat. That's not true on a weekend for dinner! Woody's does not accept reservations or separate checks. They do have a 2 credit card maximum on each table.
