After 70 years in the Back Bay, the Institute of Contemporary Arts has re-opened in full glory on the reviltalized Waterfront of Boston. Designed by world renowned architects, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, the ICA is an imposing and captivating piece of art in itself. Grab a friend and head on over to the Seaport district where the ICA is a neighbor to an ever gentrifying and hip neighborhood. Open until 9 pm and closed Mondays. Admission $10-12($10 Students with ID)
The gallery is free on Thursdays from 5-9pm.
Here is a handy map of parking lots in the area.
The Tara Donovan exhibit is exciting and well worth a visit. Especially on Target Free Thursdays. Donovan takes everyday disposable objects (paper plates, drinking straws) and mounts huge, organic looking sculptures. You want to shrink and inhabit a Scotch tape mountain range, or get wet near a wall of mylar tape that appear to be beads of water...you want to touch an undulating ceiling of styrofoam coffee cups.
The exhibit Not Rocket Science but Genius, makes you reconsider notions of permanence and disposability. Organic and artificial. Well worth an evening. If it's too chilly for a waterfront stroll the silverline takes you there, well, close at least.
