The Appleton Cafe rarely disappoints. Whether for breakfast, lunch, or a quick cup of coffee on the go. Highlights include Wednesday's Hamburgers and the mostly-daily cupcakes. This down-to-earth gourmet sandwich shop in the South End offers up super-fresh soups and delicious prepared foods. Their sandwiches ($7-8) are inventive, like the Empire, which is stuffed with roast beef, caramelized onions, chevre cheese, and roasted red peppers, and are offered on a variety of breads or wraps. If you are not in mood for lunch, try their fabulous muffins. They were named Best of Boston in 2003. Appleton has a strong neighborhood pull and is a South End staple. Far different than the chains and trendy eateries of Copley Square, this place is worth the trip after a long, hard day of shopping.
Also, be sure to check out all the other goodies that the Appleton Bakery has lining it's shelves. Gifts and treats, as well as basic grocery items can be found at the bakery. So, whether you need to do some christmas shopping, or need a quart of milk, make sure to stop by.
The Appleton Bakery takes orders for Thanksgiving Desserts- Sample items include Apple Pie w/ French Crumb-$18.00, Chocolate Mousse Torte-$26.00, Pumpkin Cheesecake-$26.00, and Pumpkin Tea Bread-$9.00. Orders must be placed by Sunday, November 18th. Call the Appleton Bakery during the holiday season at 617-859-8222 to place your holiday orders.

I work near the Appleton Cafe, and I'm in here very often. I've been here 6 years, and I'm not tired of the food yet. My infrequent favorites are the burritos and pulled pork sandwiches. The burgers are fantastic, but I've had too many of them to not fear for my arteries (as with any burger). The original owners turned the bakery into an important part of the neighborhood including an incredible annual Halloween Party. We all hope that the new owners will continue the various traditions!

I LOVE the Appleton Street Bakery's cupcakes. I work down the street and whenever we need a fix, we're sure to go and grab a cupcake from Appleton. Yum! The cupcakes are so moist and delicious and the frosting is to die for.

A good sandwich: innovative and gourmet. The perfect South End lunch spot, I just wish they had more salad options.

I arrived here one day and it was too late to have a sandwich, but I had a vegetable salad that was really quite good. Crisp vegetables, nothing soggy, and the dressing didn't weigh any of it down. I'd definitely eat that again.
