Povo is an early-stage company based in
Boston (in the
South End more specifically). We
empower communities by
harnessing people’s collective knowledge about all the places and things around where they live, work, and play. With Povo, we all can explore like a true insiders. Povo does this through on-line collaboration, allowing people to share insights and knowledge with each other.
Built by users, edited by users. Wiki-based and Creative Commons licensed. Anyone can contribute and use Povo content freely.
Free comprehensive website. Most local businesses do not have websites. With Povo, every shop, museum, park, street, neighborhood, bar, restaurant, non-profit, place, community group can (and we believe should) have a free comprehensive website, linked and related to each other.
Hyperlocal, Hyperspecific. Users can add meaning, semantics, and functionality to Povo for all to use. Users can search via meta-data for all listings on Povo in ways not possible elsewhere. Think Wikipedia meets Yellow Pages meets Lonely Planet and you'll have a general sense of what we are well on the road to becoming.
