North Slope
The North Slope of
Beacon Hill has quite the historical past. Once a home to cow pastures and horse stalls of the elite, it soon became home to the first freed blacks, poets, and artists. Later it developed into a haven for Southern and Eastern Europe immigrants after the initial wave of immigration in the 1800's. Today the North Slope of the Hill is home to brownstone architecture, apartment houses, and of course, lies in the face of
Massachusetts General Hospital. For the best the North Slope has to offer: head over to the
Museum of Afro-American History for a little history of the freed black in Boston. Swing into
Ma Soba for a little sushi,
The Spotted Apron for a cozy herbal tea and a scone (currently closed), or
The Hill Tavern for a beer in this traditional neighborhood bar where everyone seems to know everyone else. Need groceries? No problem! Just swing into
Whole Foods and do not forget to get the other essentials at
CVS next door.
