McCormack Post Office and Court House) in Boston, Massachusetts is almost entirely occupied by a privately owned and managed public park named Norman B. Leventhal Park, after the Boston building manager and designer who designed it. It sits above a parking garage in the heart of the Financial District. This garage, named "The Garage at Post Office Square," is at 80 ft below the surface, is the deepest point in the city, and revenues from parking fund the maintenance of the park. The park is a popular lunchtime destination for area workers. It features a cafe, fountains, and a pergola around a central lawn, and provides seat cushions for visitors during the summer. Designed by the landscape architects The Halvorson Company, the park is also home to "125 species of plants."

There's some pretty exciting news for Equinox members or folks that work in the financial district and are looking for a gym. Equinox is opening a second location in Post Office Square. It is a luxury sports club and rather expensive, but definitely a better choice of exercise than dodging traffic during lunch.

Equinox Fitness Clubs has leased 40,000 square feet at 225 Franklin St. in Post Office Square, where it will open its second Boston location. The facility, slated to open in April 2009, will include cardio and strength training areas, five fitness studios and the proprietary Three-Cycle Training system, as well as a pro-shop, cafe/juice bar and full-service spa.
