ReadBoston is a nonprofit children's literacy program founded by Mayor Thomas M. Menino. Our mission is to have all children in Boston reading at grade level by the end of third grade. Much of our work is focused in early education and childcare programs, elementary schools and after-school programs. We work collaboratively with teachers and staff to strengthen literacy instruction, to provide new books and other reading materials and to develop a sustainable literacy culture and environment. Our summer program, the Storymobile, visits 82 sites each week, and provides free new books and storytelling to over 25,000 children. These sites are in every neighborhood in Boston and include YMCAs, Community Centers, housing developments, libraries, and other non-profits.
