South Boston's Seaport District is flanked by the
Fort Point Channel in the west, Boston Harbor in the north, and the
Boston Convention Center and
Marine Industrial Park in the south, and Summer Street along its edge. The
Silver Line runs through this area, Boston's fifth subway line that runs predominately above ground as a cable car/bus kind of mode of transport.
The Seaport District continues to be an eclectic mix of old and new, with historic buildings and fish processing plants next to developments and architectural achievements. Fantastic views lie all along the
Harborwalk, as it stretches around the land's edge. A large and thriving seafood business still exists down here, as well as
Harpoon Brewery For years the Seaport District was acres upon acres of unused space, deserted railroad tracks, and delapitated buildings and parking lots. Although a great deal of area (for now) still remains unused space, that will soon change as much of it has been targeted for luxury condos, shopping malls and municipal parks as part of an ambitious project.
