Valter Vitorino opened Cafe Brazil, Boston's home for Brazilian cuisine, in 1986. Much of the clientele consists of the area's substantial Brazilian population (though that has evolved along with the demographics of <a href="http://allston.povo.com/?&amp;c=0c%60xoArbrmwE&amp;a=Allston%2c+MA">Alston</a>), who come to enjoy true-to-home versions of Brazilian classics like and Brazil's national dishes, like feijoada, Moqueca, churrasco, black beans, rice, salads, and desserts. Vitorino himself hails form the town of Minas Gerais, and as it is generally accepted that Brazilian dishes tend to differ slightly from place to place, Cafe Brazil reflects the regional cooking Vitorino grew up on in Minas Gerais.
<div class="p"></div>Brazilian hospitality abounds from the moment a customer enters the restaurant, and the staff welcomes you as though you were in their home. Service is prompt and friendly, and the entire staff works together to cover the whole restaurant. The food comes out very quickly, too.
<div class="p"></div>The menu is quite extensive, and if a diner is unfamiliar with Brazilian cuisine, the staff will happily guide you to something delicious. Many of the dishes come on sizzling plates, and all of the food is very fresh. There's also a karaoke room with a small stage in addition to 2 dining rooms.

973 Commonwealth in Boston, MA has a simple motto. Great Food, Great Drinks, Great People - and that's exactly what you'll find. Located in the heart of the Boston University area, this American Bar &amp; Grill is a favorite of the college crowd. Their menu features a variety of upscale pub fare, including burgers, sandwiches, pizza, pasta, steaks, salads, seafood and everything in-between. Their bar serves up a variety of domestic &amp; imported beers on tap (Guinness, Harpoon IPA, Blue Moon, Sam Adams Seasonal), as well as a fine selection of bottled beer (Budweiser, Miller, Coors, Heineken, Corona). The wine list is none too shabby either, with a great selection of red and whites to accompany your meal. And of course, their menu also features the full gambit of traditional pub appetizers, mozzarella sticks, nachos, potato skins, chicken wings, all perfect to share among friends alongside a pitcher of your favorite beer.
<div class="p"></div>In addition to the great food and drinks, 973 Commonwealth also offers a variety of weekly events. Grab the mic at their Karaoke events held every Tuesday, or compete with other bargoers for fame and prizes at Thursday night trivia. Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights all feature a live DJ, so come have a drink and enjoy the music. And any day of the week you can enjoy watching your favorite sports team on 973's giant flatscreen televisions. Simply put, 973 Commonwealth is one of the best Bar &amp; Grills in Boston, well worth checking out.

“Sizzling fajitas and frosty margaritas” are the order of the day at this funky, laid-back hangout. It's not the most authentic taco joint, but portions are large and prices are reasonable (fajitas $7-12, large order of tequila wings $10, and chili $3-4). The bar stocks 18 different kinds of tequila—need we say more? Margaritas $4+, pitchers $10+. Best of all, should the José Cuervo bring out your artistic impulses, feel free to doodle on the tables and walls (crayons provided). Entrees $7-13.

Athan's Brighton is an airy space that is much more than just a place for a coffee or a meal. We aim to provide a warm, welcoming and informal atmosphere where our patrons tend to stay longer than originally planned. Our contemporary and comfortable interior is inviting to both groups and individuals, morning, afternoon or night. Let them eat cake...as well as breakfast, lunch and dinner! Our expanded menu is eclectically Mediterranean-inspired and offers selections such as fresh salads, pressed panini sandwiches, as well as interesting entrees. We offer quality coffees and specialty loose-leaf teas (our pots of premium teas have proven to be very popular). We are also an excellent source for made-to-order-food-to-go; catering options, and business buffet lunches.

Carlo's is an Allston secret. Hefty portions, great cooking, and reasonable prices keep this little outfit packed at lunch and dinner almost every day of the week. Try the egg soup with chicken broth and egg noodles ($5) for a taste of some inspired home cooking. Traditional meat dishes are sizable and always well-cooked. The costate di maiale (pork chops and potatoes in vinegar and peppers; $16) is tender and flavorful and so generous that you'll be having it for breakfast the next day.

Devlin's calls itself, "A little bit of downtown, uptown," and it definitely brings downtown style, atmosphere and culinary excellence to Brighton Center. Appropriate for business, social or family dining, its cuisine mixes traditional and innovative American fare with a touch of international flavor and an expansive wine list. They offer both a seasonal menu and year-round upscale comfort food (including their exceptional thin-crust pizza). Critics rave about the lush setting and the delicious homemade desserts, but after the meal is when this restaurant really heats up: the tables are cleared away and the dance floor opens for dancing to music provided by live DJs. The patio at Devlin's fills up fast each night (open May-Oct), so get there early if you want outdoor seating. The patio is also the perfect spot for hosting your next function - Devlin's experienced and professional staff will make it a surefire success. Devlin's also offers full catering services for off-site events, individually tailored to your party's needs.

Tiny hole in the wall that you might miss if you didn't know it was there. Pizza, pasta, sandwiches and panini. Delicious creations like The Vermonter sandwich ($7.25) with maple turkey, smoked gouda, sliced green apple, red onion, sun dried tomato mayo, and extra thick multigrain bread which is then baked to perfection in their oven. For $6.25 you can have The Whites Cranberry Salad (fresh greens topped with walnuts, Cape Cod cranberries, cucumbers, red onion, crumbled blue cheese and a side of balsamic vinaigrette. A variation on the French Dip ($6.95) is the vegetarian Farmer Dip for $6.75, stuffed with fresh spinach, carrot, red onion, cucumber, mushrooms, roasted red pepper, tomato, sliced mozzarella, and a side of rosemary au jus. There are no less than 7 variations on the classic Reuben sandwich. Try the Z-berg Pizza with proscuitto and carmelized onions ($13.95 large). I could go on all day. El Oriental is a cheerful Cuban café which provides bilingual service with a smile. It is a casual, friendly hangout for a diverse crowd of locals. Choose from among the succulent variety plates ($7.50-$11.75), particularly the chicken fricassee and shredded beef, deliciously satisfying meals with rice, beans, and tasty fried plantains served green or ripe. Don't forget the sweet drinks—tropical shakes are only $2, and a creamy orange concoction called “morir soñando” (“to die dreaming”) is only $2.50—or the desserts (sweet, light flan; $1.50). They serve the best Cuban coffee in the City and it's not unusual to see Red Sox and visiting team players here getting their fix, along with Cubans from all over town.<br />
<div class="p"></div>El Oriental de Cuba suffered a fire bombing in mid 2005 but like a phoenix rose from the ashes. Owner Nobel Garcia, an unofficial neighborhood ambassador, never let adversity hinder him. El Oriental does catering and their food is a great way to spice up your meeting (literally) with beans, rice a little pork or beef and platanos.

Originally founded in 1991 by Michael Aplin to honor his life partner Geoffrey Seelen, this long-time favorite from Boston's Back Bay recently reopened in Roslindale Square with all a familiar panache reminiscent from its days on Tremont Street. This Washington Street hot spot has a to-die-for menu boasting yummy comfort foods ranging from its spinach &amp; artichoke appetizer dip served with tortilla chips ($7.95) and its tasty chicken saltimbocca chicken plate seared with proscuitto, capers, spinach, balsamic mushrooms served atop mashed potatoes ($14.95). While the food is stellar, it's Geoffrey's funky-chic ambiance, friendly staff and outdoor patio area that will having you coming back for more.

Well known and loved for its no frills, cafeteria-style dining and delicious array of sandwiches and hot entrees, Jim's Deli &amp; Restaurant on Washington Street in Brighton is a legend among local diners who seek neighborhood comfort food.
<div class="p"></div>In fact, Jim's Deli &amp; Restaurant has been <a href="http://phantomgourmet.com/Showpage.aspx?content=ReportCard&amp;id=3652" class="external text" title="http://phantomgourmet.com/Showpage.aspx?content=ReportCard&amp;id=3652" rel="nofollow">featured</a> on Phantom Gourmet and Sunday's with Liz Walker as a "hidden jewel" known for its "no frills, no fuss, no problem" appeal.
<div class="p"></div>The menu is vast and the portions enormous: come hungry and bring friends to best enjoy the convivial, home-grown atmosphere that truly earns this establishment its beloved reputation. On weekends, come early to avoid the late breakfast rush. At 10 a.m., the line gets long and the seating is scarce, but the food is worth the (surprisingly quick) brunch-hour wait times.
<div class="p"></div>The <a href="http://www.jimsdelibrighton.com/pdfs/jims_deli_catering_2008.pdf" class="external text" title="http://www.jimsdelibrighton.com/pdfs/jims_deli_catering_2008.pdf" rel="nofollow">enormous menu</a> covers not only all breakfast foods (including mouth watering omelettes, $5.95), but also many types of sandwiches (all large and fresh and priced near $7 with fries)and plates of pasta and vegetable options. It's not fancy and it's not a linger-and-soak-in-the-ambience type of place, but that's the point. And that's why it's great.

Don't let the shabby exterior fool you: This hole in the wall is Chinatown's best kept and most delicious secret. This reasonably priced Chinese food restaurant is known for its specialties including their yummy scallion pancakes and their top-tier Peking Duck (however, you must order it 24 hours in advance). <b>King Fung Garden</b> has been a Chinatown staple for more than 50 years with an extremely friendly and courteous staff. If you have trouble deciding what to order, owners Irwin and Doris Mei will gladly help you out. Also, in an area with less-than-stellar restrooms, King Fung has some of the cleanest and well-kept washrooms in Chinatown.

Arouse the taste buds with the Kashk-E Bademjan (roast eggplant with goat's milk; $7) before preceding on to the demure but filling Abgusht (lamb shank; $18) or Morgh (saffron dark chicken; $15). You still won't want to leave enchanting LaLa Rokh, so savor the gentle desserts like the baklava ($6) and creme caramel ($7) as you linger for hours.

As comically old-school as it may be, Locke-Ober invariably delivers on its biggest promise: a wildly decadent, scotch-and-cigar-laden immersion in all things traditionally New England—and Harvard, of course. This restaurant's ancient leather chairs, pheasant prints, sprawling chandeliers, and heavy panelled walls once watched only the wealthiest of men. Now, as our waiter lamented, the dining room is open to ladies, though “it is not designed for it.” The spookily stiff waiters invisibly deliver dishes from a menu leaning heavily toward expensive meats and seafood, from appetizers such as the divine Jonah crab cakes ($14) all the way through the entrees (tasty, fatty sirloin; $36) and sickeningly rich and delicious desserts. For the pyromaniacs among us, ample opportunities exist to have various dishes flambéed (read: lit on fire) tableside. For good reason, the Hasty Pudding Theatricals still bring their Man of the Year here annually.

A lively family-owned restaurant in the North End, L'Osteria serves Italian favorites cheaper than most of its neighbors, and indeed, the lower prices may be its only claim to fame. The unspectacular but varied fare features a wide selection of veal, chicken, and seafood. The juicy veal piemontese, stuffed with prosciutto and mozzarella, is quite tasty, though the bowl of accompanying pasta bears close resemblance to dining hall options. Dessert ($6) options limited to tiramisu and amaretto cake. Entrees $13-$17. <i>This section contains information from <a href="http://www.hsa.net" class="external text" title="http://www.hsa.net" rel="nofollow">Harvard Student Agencies' Unofficial Guide to Life at Harvard</a>.</i>

<b>Peter's Deli</b> has counter service offering sandwiches, salads and a number of daily specials. Pete's is freakin awesome! The owner (I'm assuming Peter) hand crafts each sandwich on the list as described or to your specification, and also has a great list of specials each day. It's incredible watching the care and attention that he puts into each sandwich. Pete's is clean, quick, reasonably priced, and most importantly DELICIOUS while not being anything fancy. There's also a lot of healthy (and unhealthy) options to choose from, and the small dining area is kinda cool too. Prices range from $5.00 to $10.00. A great place to visit for lunch.

<div class="p"></div>One of the best Pho houses in Dorchester, and for that matter all of Boston, and again, by that criteria, in the country. Mind you, I am speaking strictly of the quality of their pho; the restaurant itself is in Fields Corner, which is not the greatest neighborhood in the city. The interior is bare bones, very 1970s era kitsch decor, though they do have two TVs and show the news during the day, and Vietnamese variety shows during the evening. Most of the clientele and all of the staff are Vietnamese, and that authenticity is reflected in the food. Their pho has a deliciously rich broth, and they will serve it in the traditional way, with the sliced steak raw on a platter, if you ask. An extra large costs around $6.50, and is enormous. Their other dishes are quite tasty, too, but if is - as the name suggests - primarily about the Pho here.

Though a Mexican restaurant may seem out of place down in South Boston, don't go telling that to owner David Littlefield. Littlefield; more famously known as Fenway mainstay "<a href="http://www.thesausageguy.com" class="external text" title="http://www.thesausageguy.com" rel="nofollow">The Sausage Guy</a>"; had an interest in bringing a different flavor of food to the neighborhood (as odd as the location choice might've seemed). And it's the Sausage Guy's love of Mexican food, combined with his knack for friendly and fun service, that helped make Salsa's Mexican Grill the local favorite it is today, and one of the best Mexican restaurants in Boston.
<div class="p"></div>Salsa’s head chef and Mexican native Maria Cidello brings her love of cooking full force to the Salsa's kitchen, combining classic Mexican recipes with a creative flair. The menu offers up an assortment of traditional Mexican fare, including burritos, tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas and perhaps most popular, their mouth-watering fajitas. The menu also features many specialty dishes such as Chile en Nogada (Poblano peppers stuffed with ground beef, almonds, raisins, apples and honey) and Albondigas (A Mexican meatloaf of ground beef, ham, spices &amp; garlic topped with a special tomato, orange and Chipotle pepper salsa). Salsa's also features a full bar area, offering a wide selection of premium tequilas as well as their famous sangria. For those looking for a taste of Mexico in an unlikely place, you could do no better than a trip to Salsa's Mexican Grill.

It's 3 a.m. and you need a bite to eat? No worries. South Street Diner near South Station and in the Leather District serves up greasy diner fare--everything from burgers to home fries to a chicken bomb--with a "Kiss My Grits!" attitude. Great place to people watch or to play a few tunes on the joint's old-school electronic juke box.

Family owned since 1978, Supreme Pizza &amp; Subs is an established favorite of the college crowd. Located within walking distance of Symphony station and the Berklee college of music, this cozy pizzeria offers both standard takeout service, as well as a dining area which seats up to 30.
<div class="p"></div>Though the name Supreme Pizza &amp; Subs should give an idea as to the kind of menu fare offered, the restaurant also features variety of other choices, all with affordable prices. Calzones, Club Sandwiches, Roll-Ups, Pasta and Dinner entrees, and of course pizza, offered either as a full medium (12") or large 15") pie, or simply order by the slice. Toppings consist largely of old standbys like pepperoni, mushroom and sausage, though specialty toppings like feta cheese and roasted red peppers make an appearance on several of the specialty pies. In addition the late hours also make this eatery an excellent choice for local bar-going patrons, looking for a quick bite after a night of drinking.
<div class="p"></div>Delivery available throughout Suffolk County, though get your orders in at least fifteen minutes before closing time. Now open until 2:30am on Friday and Saturday nights, this late-night eatery should not be missed.

<b>UPDATE:</b> Unfortunately, Allston's Grecian Yearning was engulfed in flames Tuesday, June 10.
<div class="p"></div>Click <a href="http://community.livejournal.com/b0st0n/6000631.html" class="external text" title="http://community.livejournal.com/b0st0n/6000631.html" rel="nofollow">HERE</a> for details.
<div class="p"></div><b>The Grecian Yearning</b> in Allston is a quintessential greasy spoon--traditional breakfast and brunch at its best. The hotspot's latest claim to fame is that it served as a film location for the movie "The Lonely Maiden,” starring Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken and William H. Macy. The scene was shot in late November 2007. Based on the film shoot, The Grecian Yearning is a true family affair. Owner Nicholas Katsarikas and his wife, son and daughter all got to participate in the film shoot, playing — what else — the chef, cashier and wait staff at the diner.
<div class="p"></div>The restaurant suffered a fire on June 10, 2008.

For a small stretch between Huntington Ave. and <a href="http://brookline.ma.povo.com/Coolidge_Corner">Coolidge Corner</a> in Boston on the 66 bus line, there’s an area known as Harvard Square. And no, there’s no affiliation to that other <a href="http://cambridge.ma.povo.com/Harvard_Square">Harvard Square</a> over the bridge in <a href="http://cambridge.ma.povo.com/">Cambridge</a>.
<div class="p"></div>Who knew?
<div class="p"></div>The vibe in the Harvard Square in <a href="http://brookline.ma.povo.com/Brookline_Village">Brookline Village</a> is lively--with a slew of restaurants, coffee shops and interesting stores to keep you busy.
<div class="p"></div>The neighborhood's hidden gem? Village Smokehouse, a restaurant that serves up Southern hospitality coupled with an authentic open pit Texas barbeque, gives Somerville's Redbones a run for its money.
<div class="p"></div>Also, the haunt has a sense of humor. There's a quote on the side of the restaurant's window that reads, "I wish Coke was still Cola, and a Joint was a bad place to be."

Your kids will be fascinated with the way they roll out the pizza dough and flip it for everyone to see. The staff there were very friendly and keep making sure all of the patrons are all set. The atmosphere is very warm. The employees treated people like it's their home. Sit at the communal table and and chat. A lot of young single people hang there and it's a great place to sit and read in the afternoon. For all you pizza lovers out there I highly recommend you going to the Upper Crust, you will be addicted. It's a marriage of the perfect amount of cheese, sauce, and toppings on a scrumptious crispy crust.

<div class="p"></div>Named #1 New Restaurant in America by New York Times Critic Frank Bruni<a href="#cite-note-1">[1]</a>.
<div class="p"></div>Excerpt below:
<div class="p"></div>With the possible exception of a certain turbulent campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination, there may be something to these husband-and-wife tag teams.
<div class="p"></div>At O Ya Tim and Nancy Cushman successfully divvy up the emotional impact they want their restaurant to have on you.
<div class="p"></div>Running the kitchen, he takes charge of dazzling, and does so with intricate, stunningly creative dishes grounded in, but not restrained by, Japanese tradition.
<div class="p"></div>Running the front of the house, she takes charge of soothing, and I saw an example of that the moment I arrived.
<div class="p"></div>Two women ahead of me approached the hostess stand and asked her if she had any unreserved tables. She didn’t.
<div class="p"></div>So she gave them a detailed rundown of the restaurants nearby. Then she called the ones that interested the two women. She made them a reservation, gave them walking directions. And off they went — to dine at one of her competitors.
<div class="p"></div>The Cushmans don’t have any children other than O Ya, a fussed-over, tightly clutched baby that Tim Cushman, 55, dreamed about over the decades that he worked as a restaurant consultant, helping other chefs realize their ambitions.
<div class="p"></div>In Los Angeles in the 1980’s, he dined in Nobu Matsuhisa’s restaurant and even, for a few days, worked beside him. Later he traveled to Japan, gathering new ideas.
<div class="p"></div>Nancy, 34, has been there with him and on her own, and is the architect of the impressive sake list at O Ya, whose name is a Japanese expression of curiosity.
<div class="p"></div>The restaurant, plotted with excellence more than profit in mind, reflects extraordinary pride. Although it has just 37 seats, 17 of them at an L-shaped sushi counter, there are as many as five chefs in addition to Mr. Cushman working on a given night. They execute a menu with about 80 savory dishes, few of them simple, and just as many sauces and dressings a night.
<div class="p"></div>The front side of the menu is devoted to sushi and sashimi ($8 to $28 for two or three pieces), almost all of it given embellishments much more elaborate and unexpected than wasabi and shiso.
<div class="p"></div>A raw oyster was crowned with minuscule scoops of ponzu-marinated watermelon and diced cucumbers. It was an ideal palate primer at the start of the meal.
<div class="p"></div>A fried oyster shared its rice bed with a house-made yuzu aioli, a julienne of Japanese leek and “squid bubbles,” a froth of oyster juice, squid ink, olive oil and milk. It was a one-bite affair, but what a bite — briny, creamy, alive with different textures and flavors.
<div class="p"></div>Mr. Cushman’s idea of what belongs on a pedestal of rice isn’t limited to salmon, tuna, eel and uni, though O Ya has all of that. It extends to seared foie gras, which he bathes in balsamic vinegar, chocolate and raisins. I ordered a second piece as soon as I finished the first. There was no way I was leaving O Ya with the memory of just one.
<div class="p"></div>The flip side of the menu has such categories as pork (kurobuta), beef (wagyu) and chicken (poulet rouge), the last of which yielded a “ballotine of chicken wing” ($12) that exemplified the kitchen’s painstaking efforts.
<div class="p"></div>The boned wing had been brined overnight in a mixture including tea and yuzu juice; stuffed with a pâte of ground chicken, shiitake mushrooms and Napa cabbage; and deep-fried. Then it was placed over tangy house-made kimchi and drizzled with scallion ginger oil, fresh yuzu zest and toasted sesame seeds.
<div class="p"></div>My companion marveled, “It’s like a chicken bone just melted in my mouth.”
<div class="p"></div>At the risk of putting my credentials as a carnivore in doubt, I must say that the best dish on the menu — maybe the best dish of my entire journey — came from the menu’s vegetable category.
<div class="p"></div>Called “grilled sashimi of chanterelle and shiitake,” ($18) it seemed to me to settle any and all debate over umami, which has to exist if only to explain why these thinly sliced mushrooms, brushed with soy sauce and a rosemary garlic oil, have such a full, magnificent taste. Sesame gets some credit. In fact sesame gets a lot of credit, contributing to both a froth of porcini and milk that covers the so-called sashimi and to a brittle that’s sprinkled on the froth.
<div class="p"></div>The desserts at O Ya don’t live up to what precedes them. It doesn’t matter.
<div class="p"></div>You might end up spending $125 a person on the restaurant’s modestly portioned dishes. It’s worth it.
<div class="p"></div>The quality of the ingredients, the warmth of the service and the coziness of the setting — a dark, weathered, brick-walled room that was built as a firehouse a century ago and rejects clichéd sushi-bar sleekness — will convince you of that.
<div class="p"></div>And you’ll walk out the restaurant’s inconspicuous front door, off a cobblestone alley in an oddly somnolent neighborhood near the main train station, wondering whether you should keep this little secret or shout it out loud.

One of the classic Boston steakhouses, however Abe and Louie's was hot even before the recent steak craze. Dark and decadent, this Boylston street hotspot offers a variety of steaks, fabulous wines, and even a wonderful weekend brunch. Over-sized leather courtroom chairs and Hollywood-style booths in the dining room create an inviting atmosphere while impressive bronze chandeliers, massive torchieres, traditional mahogany detailing, and the gold leaf barrel vault ceiling add an air of elegance. Hamersley's features one of Boston's first open kitchens, allows you to see the chef, Gordon Hamersley, while he cooks your dinner. The design of Mistral is both elegant and casual, resonating with the ambiance of Provence as arched floor to ceiling windows drench the room with light. This restaurant and bar is located inside the <a href="http://boston.povo.com/Fairmont_Copley_Plaza_Hotel">Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel</a>.<br /><br />
Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the <b>Oak Room</b> is a regal, comfortably elegant restaurant that offers a traditional steakhouse menu with a distinctive twist. The Oak Room is adorned with gold, maroon and green fabrics and draperies that complement the dark wood paneling and mirrored walls. Cameos and lacunaria accent the intricate white plasterwork that details the 30-foot-high ceiling and twin Waterford crystal chandeliers illuminate the room.
<br /><br />
The <b>Oak Bar</b> has been recently restored and is reminiscent of a British Officer's Club in the Orient. The same dark wood paneling and mirrors that flank the Oak Room are offset in the Oak Bar by smooth marble. Heraldry symbols decorate the ornately gilded and painted coffered ceiling. The furniture and décor create an inviting atmosphere to enjoy a relaxing drink or close a business deal.
<div class="p"></div>The dress code is business casual, but after 6pm, no shorts, cut out or tank top T-shirts, hats and sport sandals.

The Daily Catch is exactly what you'd expect from a <a href="http://boston.povo.com/North_End">North End</a> seafood restaurant—a tiny, low-key eatery with ultra-fresh fish. Seafood-lovers will go crazy indulging in delectable sicilian-style seafood and pasta, but non-fish-eaters beware: fish-free options are rare. For the adventurous, try one of the several black pasta entrees, dyed with squid ink which imparts a great taste (appetizer $8.75, dinner portion $15.75), or stick to a more basic, but equally delicious, mussels, fish, or calamari dish, among others (entrees $16-20). They call this restaurant "the place where chefs dine." Housed in the <a href="http://boston.povo.com/Eliot_Hotel" class="new">Eliot Hotel</a> at the top of the <a href="http://boston.povo.com/Commonwealth_Ave_Mall">Commonwealth Avenue mall</a>, this Japanese-French restaurant really knows no bounds when it comes to imaginative food. From French and American classic cuisine, to a Asian twist with Oringer's affinity for the exotic (as seen in his sashimi bar, Uni) Clio is not to be missed. This quaint space makes the top lists of restaurants year after year, and Oringer is added to the list of the best chefs in the country as well. Clio offers private dining as well.

<div class="p"></div>The recent addition of Rocca to the growing list of top-tier restaurants in the <a href="http://roxbury.ma.povo.com/Sowa_Open_Market">SOWA</a> region of the <a href="http://roxbury.ma.povo.com/South_End">South End</a> was highly lauded when it opened in Spring 2007. Italian food inspired by the Riviera, this hotspot is not only a fabulous meal with a creative twist, but it also boasts a great bar scene. Rocca's menu is mid-range prices with a fairly expensive wine list. The best way to describe Rocca? Italian-style tapas. Rocca specializes in small portions and a collection of Italian-style tastes like fresh raviolis, gnocchi and the artichoke "taste" dish. There's a rustic water wheel sculpture made out of metal for outdoor diners which punctuates the restaurant's already stunning red-and-silver ambience. Also, Rocca boasts ample free parking which is a definite plus for Boston-area foodies.

Where's the beef? The first Daily Grill to open in New England, Daily Grill Boston is located at <a href="http://boston.povo.com/The_Shops_at_Prudential_Center">The Shops at Prudential Center</a>. The venue has a bar area boasting its array of signature cocktails as well as a stellar selection of surf and turf including a New York Strip Steak that has been aged for 28 days ($28.75) and prime rib with au jus only served on Saturdays and Sundays ($27.95). Their sauce seems to be, well, their secret sauce ranging from savory red wine to creamy horseradish. The Hill Tavern is <a href="http://boston.povo.com/Beacon_Hill">Beacon Hill's</a> neighborhood bar. Standing proud on bustling Cambridge Street, the Hill Tavern is the perfect spot for a great burger, big brunch, or tasty beer. The house burger contains seven ounces of top-flight ground sirloin, which arrives courtesy of <a href="http://boston.povo.com/Savenor%27s_Market">Savenor's</a> (<a href="http://boston.povo.com/Beacon_Hill">Beacon Hill</a>'s top butcher), wood-grilled to juicy perfection and served with hand-cut fries. The clientele is mainly local 20's and 30 somethings that either enjoy the new seated patio, or stand in the crowded bar on a weekend night. Either it be a low key dinner with friends or a place to watch the <a href="http://boston.povo.com/Red_Sox">Red Sox</a> game, the Hill Tavern is the place to be. This is the best bar around!
<div class="p"></div>Tip: Stop by weekdays, 4pm-6pm, and enjoy half-priced appetizers (chips and salsa, wings, chicken tenders). Also, if you're on a date, ask to be seated in the quiet, secluded side dining room which is partially obscured from the bar.

The name Deep Ellum refers to an area of Dallas known for its fabulous music, incomparable food and enticing nightlife since the early 1900’s. The area has produced some of the most influential names in blues and jazz.
<div class="p"></div>The biggest draw of this <a href="http://allston.povo.com/">Allston</a> hotspot: well done comfort food, in a bar. You know, the type of place you can get buttermilk pancakes and a Bloody Mary. Great beer selection not to mention cocktails. The best part about this place is the is the service. They are very knowledgeable about the alcohol they serve and are great at helping you out. Congenial atmosphere of mid-to-late 20-year olds, non-meathead crowd, but not overwhelmingly pretentious, either. They are in Reel Bar's old space, which is ever rotating bars, but I will be VERY sad if this place doesn't catch on and have a long life here.

It's got an odd name, locals just call it "The Gate" but an Irish pub named for the way Guiness is moved in and out of the factory in Dublin can't be bad, right?
<br />
They've got Shepherd's Pie and Blood Pudding (which comes with the full Irish breakfast) or there's always the Bangers and Mash. Like the contemporary menus of pubs back in the old country, you can order curry sauce to dip your chips (fries) in. Being a JP establishment there's plenty for vegetarians to eat too. And the PEI mussels are simply the best thing EVER!
<br />
The ambiance is articulated by a long, centrally located, communal table in front of a fireplace - which roars throughout the cold winter months. In the warmer weather, there is a patio with shaded tables to eat al fresco.
<div class="p"></div>Trivia is played on Monday nights.

<div class="p"></div>This five-time Best of Boston pizza joint has been making mouths water since 1902. Although in the beginning, it was just the grilled meat that they are duly famous for. When the "new expansion" happened in the 1920s, pizza came onto the scene. People in and outside of the Boston area make the drive to Eastie for their famous cheesy pies. Parking is terrible and there is sure to be a line out the door on any given night. But at lunchtime, it's easier to get a seat. If you eat in, ask your waiter to tell you about the celebrities he's served. If you're ordering take-out, bring someone with you and let them wait while you circle around.
<div class="p"></div>The open-fire grill produces both lamb kebabs and sausage while the pizza oven produces fantastic pizza in a number of combinations. The food is just straight out good. There's beer, wine and a full bar to accompany your selection.

<div class="p"></div>Bella Luna has been serving great food to folks from <a href="http://jamaicaplain.povo.com/">JP</a> since 1993. The interior has a funky decor (with work by local artists) and you eat off of hand drawn plates (like those ones you did in elementary school). But it's the pizza (and other food) that is what folks come for.
<br />
<br />
The Simple Simon pizza (just mozzarella and sauce) starts at $5 for the small, but try some of the more exciting combos: Manny's Grand Slam (white pizza with garlic mashed potatoes, bacon, cheddar and scallions served with sour cream); La Sophia (pesto, chicken artichoke hearts); or the Latin Quarter (chicken, avocado, cheddar, bacon, jalapenos). Or you can also create your own galatic pie or calzone. Bella Luna also serves up appetizers, entrees, sandwiches and superior salads. They offer a full take out menu and deliver to JP. They also have a Party Take Out Menu - which is super handy for times when you want to have the gang over but don't want to do all the cooking (or for meetings!)<br />
And if all this glorious food isn't enough, one percent of the profits go to support local non-profits. So every forkful is for a good cause! Once you are done eating you can head downstairs into the <a href="http://jamaicaplain.povo.com/Milky_Way_Lounge_%26_Lanes">Milky Way</a> for a little bowling.

<div class="p"></div>Sorella's has been serving <a href="http://jamaicaplain.povo.com/">Jamaica Plain</a> for over 20 years. It's the quintessential New England place - breakfast and lunch only. But it's also very JP in its offerings - tofu and other meat alternatives are available. Amazing combinations in the muffins, pancakes, french toast and waffles -- try the ginger, blueberry, hazlenut. YUM! Where else can you get pumkin pancakes with cream cheese and strawberry's? Or how about pancakes with raisins, peaches, walnuts, strawberries, cinnamon and whipped cream? The ingredients are so fresh! The omelettes are out of this world, too. The walls are filled with their original omelette creations, often named after employees. Fresh mozzarella, arugula, basil. If you go any weekday for breakfast you will see the local regulars. On the weekends be prepared to stand in line (outside, there's no room inside). It's fun and funky greasy spoon.
<div class="p"></div>There are 2 seating areas - "outsiders" should know to go into the street level door and announce your intentions. You'll be given clearance by the staff if you need to go up the stairs outside into the secondary seating level.
<div class="p"></div>Tip: this place is seriously packed with a line down the block on the weekends. Arrive before 9am to guarantee a good seat. It's very tiny and will be very tough for those who require strollers or disability access, so keep that in mind before you go.

You can tell too, since it's completely exposed in the upstairs dining area and worth showing off; bustling, clean and buzzing with foodie delight.
<div class="p"></div>The size of the restaurant makes you think of a row house - it was multiple floors (2) and narrow and long. There were mirrors hung along the walls - which I assume was to make the space seem less narrow - which works well. Nice, simple decor with lots of cherry colored wood. If you are taking a date there BE SURE to request a window seat. This place defines 'wine and dine'.

The Warren Tavern not only has a happening social scene filled with 20 and 30 somethings, but the food on the menu is a comfort seekers dream. Creamy chowder, french onion soup, huge burgers that are the talk of the town, and a variety of salads stock the menu. One of the best places to visit in this part of the city! <b>UPDATE:</b> The case of the open-and-shut restaurant? After a much-hyped grand opening in October, the 2,000-square-foot upscale French bistro on Columbus Ave. that transformed Bob's Southern Bistro into a foo-foo French hot spot is up for sale as of December 3. The Atlantic Restaurant Group is selling the South End haunt for a mere $795,000. Any takers?
<div class="p"></div><br />
Circle: Plates and Lounge, the hot new restaurant and lounge in the other side of Mass. Ave. in the <a href="http://roxbury.ma.povo.com/South_End">South End</a>, will have you seeing red ... but in a good way. Adorned with striking red cloth banquetts and bar stools coupled with hot-and-cold mood lighting, this new kid on the block serves up an exciting contemporary French menu with tasty entrees like the Coulette Steak en Sous Vide ($22) and a reasonably priced poached lobster ($34).
<div class="p"></div>But its Circle's mind-blowing assortment of expertly crafted cocktails that's generating the most buzz: elaborate fruity concoctions ranging from the labor-intensive Dowry (cherries, blueberries and lime shaken with Patron, $10) to the heavenly La Fleur Boheme (gin, pink grapefruit juice and champagne, $14).
<div class="p"></div>With a striking ambience to match its shockingly good food and cocktail menu, Circle: Plates and Lounge is gourmet French food at its best. Bon appetit!

With so many places to choose from when it comes to a quick, cheap eat, Il Mondo should be at the top of your list. really. Their menu is nothing but creative and titillating concoctions of quirky and yummy ingredients (think goat cheese and pesto sauce). For around 2 dollars, you can get one very large slice of gourmet pizza with the best not-too-soft, not-too-crispy crust and topped with fresh sauce and toppings. However-if you're looking for a romantic cheap date, this is not your place. Slightly lacking in their decor, this is great take-out, run-out place where you can eat your pizza in a slightly more cozy environment. (There's a nice little park a block away called <a href="http://dorchester.ma.povo.com/Puddingstone_Park">Puddingstone Park</a> with an amazing skyline view of the city that might prove a better place to enjoy your delicious pizza).
