Known as the Fleet Center until July of 2005, this eight-year-old “state-of-the-art entertainment complex” lacks the history, tradition, and championship teams of “The Old Garden.” But on the bright side, the glossy $160 million venue also lacks the dirt, grime, and most of the obstructed-view seats that made its predecessor so dubiously unique. 25 million people have visited since its opening in 1995, and for good reason. Seating 19,600 people, the complex is without a doubt the biggest-drawing arena in New England, with 200 public events per year. TD Banknorth Garden brings all the big names, hosting concerts (with the likes of U2), ice shows, circuses, and, of course, the Celtics and Bruins. The Garden not only hosts sporting events and concerts, but it was the site of Barack Obama's keynote speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention.
