Cars are not allowed to drive here, so this is one of the few places in Boston where you are actually safe from traffic. Boston drivers are notoriously impatient, and will run over your Grandma to get into a good parking space. No worries here, the pedestrians are free range and very happy.

Eight floors of jewelry businesses: jewelers and diamond merchants selling at wholesale prices. Due to the huge concentration of jewelry dealers densely situated in this location, this area is also known as Boston's 'Diamond District' (in reality not any larger than a block.) In 2002 the building was the target of a 5-man jewelry heist, Colombians who planned to rob wholesalers in the building, but were foiled by the FBI.

Sakura Japan
The only thing that seemingly about 99% of the other patrons I see there really get is the teriyaki chicken with white rice (ask for extra sauce on it as well). Mass-produced, but tasty, greasy, and satisfying (and something different from a fast food burger) -- for $5-6, you can't go too wrong.

Sushi Time
This place is always a shock walking into the corner-mall food court. Its decorated like a traditional Sushi restaurant, but in the entrance way to a 90's style food court, across from a Dunkin Donuts.
You won't be able to get over the fact that the Corner Mall has good Sushi. Sure, you can get better sushi in Boston... but this is probably the cheapest one (might have something to do with them not accepting credit cards.)

With Cingular Wireless merging with AT&T, this Downtown Crossing shop offers a broad spectrum of phone models (ranging from the cutting-edge iPhone to trendy RAZRs to the pay per minute GO phone). Customer service is above average at the Washington Street store (the sales staff isn’t overly pushy). This AT&T (formerly Cingular Wireless) location also has a nifty iPhone display which allows potential buyers to test the technology before making a commitment.

Endless rows of shoeboxes with a sample pair at the top of each pile fill the two floors of DSW, where you'll find a wide range of shoes (mostly from past seasons) for men, women and kiddies. With labels including Easy Spirit, Dockers, Nine West, Diesel, Reaction by Kenneth Cole, and Skechers, prices are generally about 20 percent off original price. Clearances at the store slash prices up to 80%, so get 'em while they're cheap and in pairs. Hosiery and lingerie also available.

Established 1839 simply stated on the front and the large picture window filled with glittering gems and gold, there is a sense of being transported back in time. The store's original chandelier still hangs from above! Gold isn't all that glitters at this 150-year-old shop. Gems, sterling silver and the largest diamond inventory in New England also shine here. Find some men's watches as low as $50 or keep time in style with a $30,000, diamond-studded model. Layaway and appraisal services available. Also repairs antique watches. It has been said that The E.B. Horn Company sells more jewelry per square foot than any other jewelry store in the country.

This entertainment hotspot on Washington Street sells CDs, DVDs, books and video games and also purchase used CDs for resale. According to the Boston Business Journal, the legendary mark-down retailer will occupy its original yet renovated three basement floors in Downtown Crossing starting spring 2009, and will rent two stories in the new Filene's building - in addition to the actual basement. They're doing a pretty good job with the demolition right now. I can't wait to see how it turns out!
